TRIANGLE AREA, NC – The U.S. Postal Service offers alternative locations to the traditional Post Offices for customers to mail cards and letters and to ship packages from during this holiday season.

The Contract Postal Unit (CPU) is a postal retail office housed within an existing, non-postal business or building that offers virtually all postal services. It helps to increase convenience and access to postal services for customers unable to travel to the other Post Offices. A full line of postal products and services are available at the CPU including postage stamps, Express Mail® service, Priority Mail® service, special services, packaging products, and much more. A listing of all CPUs in the Triangle area is below.”

The Automated Postal Center (APC) is a free-standing kiosk available in selected Post Office lobbies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is an alternative retail location for customers to conduct virtually all of their postal business, and is part of the Postal Service’s efforts to expand access to its customers beyond the traditional, brick-and-mortar Post Offices. APCs accept credit and debit cards and enable customers to weigh and mail letters and parcels and purchase stamps. It also dispenses postage in any amount for Express Mail, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail, and Parcel Post services. The APC also provides mailing information, ZIP Code lookup, and Delivery Confirmation services.

Customers will also find many traditional services needed for the holidays mailing season by going online to www.usps.com/cheer, including purchasing stamps, printing mailing labels and postage for packages, and calling to arrange package pickup (Click-N-Ship). To find a Post Office, CPU or APC online, go to www.usps.com and select “Find Locations” on the webpage.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With 32,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $67 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 29th in the 2010 Fortune 500. Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines ranked the Postal Service as a leader in workforce diversity. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency six consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
