HILLSBOROUGH – Robert Whitehead, Hillsborough Post Office sales and service associate, was officially presented with the Greensboro District 2012 SSA of the Year award in a ceremony at his office that included breakfast for all employees in the building. Greensboro District encompasses roughly half of all postal facilities in North Carolina.

Whitehead was nominated by Hillsborough Postmaster Tom Pollard for his stellar performance at the retail counter in Fiscal Year 2012. The former city carrier was recognized as being a reliable and upbeat employee, who personally generated $2300 in Every Door Direct Mail, a sales program that generates revenue by soliciting new business customers; and performed nearly 50,000 Walk-in Revenue transactions with a 95.1% average for Expedited Mail Contribution, which measures the SSA’s ability to “upsell” to customers. “Whitehead focuses on making each transaction the best it can be for the customer,” according to Pollard.

District Manager Russ Gardner, Marketing Manager Randall Anderson and Retail Manager Tammy Apple were all on hand at the award presentation. “We are the best in the nation at taking care of our customers at the retail counter, and Robert is the perfect example of why we are the best,” said Gardner to the Hillsborough employees. “It is an honor to be able to recognize an employee who is so committed at being the best he can be for our customers.” Apple followed Gardner by saying, “We’ve seen the improvement over the years at this office, and how well the SSAs have embraced the changes in our retail process. It makes a huge difference in how we do business, and Robert has always been well aware of that.”

In addition to the SSA award, Whitehead was also recognized by the Capital Metro Area Vice President’s office for the best performance in Expedited Services during December, with a 97.4% figure in expedited sales.

“I have my co-workers to thank for this award,” said Whitehead. “They really make it easy to come to work every day because we work so well together. I humbly accept this award in gratitude for our work relationships.”
