Linda O’Dell-Strong named new Raleigh Postmaster

RALEIGH, NC — Linda O’Dell-Strong was recently promoted as the new Postmaster of Raleigh. O’Dell-Strong, a postal employee of more than 25 years, replaces Howard Sample, who is now Postmaster of Philadelphia, PA.

O’Dell-Strong’s official Postmaster installation ceremony will be held on Friday, March 28, 11 am at the Lake Lynn Community Center, 7921 Ray Road, Raleigh. The event is free and open to the public, though attendees must reserve a seat in advance by calling (919) 420-5148.

O’Dell-Strong began her postal career in 1988 as a distribution and window clerk in Arlington, VA. Soon after she began her ascension into the management ranks, holding numerous positions over the years, including customer services supervisor, customer services manager and Postmaster. In 2006 she moved to Raleigh as Manager, Customer Services at Sunnybrook Station in Raleigh before promotions to Post Office Operations Manager, Senior Post Office Operations Manager and Acting Postmaster, Silver Spring (MD). She served as Acting Postmaster, Raleigh prior to her recent official appointment. She graduated from the Postal Service’s Advanced Leadership Program in 2013, and is currently working toward her bachelor’s degree at University of Phoenix.

“I aim to be the postal brand and to serve the customers of the great city of Raleigh timely and efficiently,” said O’Dell-Strong. “We’re part of one of the finest postal districts in the country.”

In Raleigh, O’Dell-Strong is responsible for 497 employees and 218 delivery routes in six full-service stations, eight retail units and one collection unit, and delivering nearly 630,000 pieces of mail daily to more than 233,000 delivery points. In addition, O’Dell-Strong oversees the operations of five Contract Post Offices in Raleigh, alternate postal locations that offer most postal products and services during its retail hours Monday-Saturday, with one office open on Sundays.

O’Dell-Strong was reared in Arlington, VA, and now lives in Siler City, NC.
