GREENSBORO - Greensboro letter carrier Chester Stewart, a resident of Pleasant Garden, was honored recently as he joined the ranks of the prestigious Million Mile Club, the highest honor given to professional drivers in the workplace. To gain entry in the club, one must have driven in the workplace for at least 30 years or one million miles without incurring a preventable motor vehicle accident. The honor is given by the National Safety Council.

“Mr. Stewart joined an elite club of postal employees by earning this award,” said Ronnie White, Acting District Manager, Greensboro District. “Our number one goal is to have everyone go home at the end of the day in the same manner you came to work, which is safely. We have more traffic than in smaller cities, so this is quite an accomplishment. I’m very proud to see him get this award.”

Stewart has been a postal employee for 30+ years, and delivers mail on the north end of Greensboro, in and around English Street. “I consider it quite an honor,” he said. “I’m a pretty good driver, and have had to duck and dodge some dangerous situations over the years, so a little bit of luck is involved as well. I always have to watch myself out there.”

Less than two percent of all carriers in Greensboro District are recognized for this achievement every year. “The National Safety Council likens getting this award to a climber reaching the top of Mount Everest,” said White. “Many have tried but not everyone can actually get there.”
