HIGH POINT – A High Point letter carrier and resident of Lexington was honored recently after having joined the ranks of the prestigious Million Mile Club, the highest honor given to professional drivers in the workplace.
High Point Letter Carrier Leon Hogan was recognized at his Post Office as the latest inductee into the Million Mile Club. Hogan delivers mail on the south side of High Point on Brentwood and side streets off of Leonard Ave. and Kivett Drive, among others.
High Point Postmaster Editha “Dee” Strickland, Acting District Manager Ronnie White, and Post Office Operations, Area 3 Manager Robert Hall recognized Hogan for his ability to drive regularly for the Postal Service for at least 30 years – which translates to at least one million miles – without incurring a preventable motor vehicle accident. The award is given by the National Safety Council (NSC).
“We are very proud of Leon’s accomplishments and our community should likewise be proud of the safety record he brings,” said Strickland. “Earning this award speaks to his daily dedication and commitment to excellence, and he is more than deserving of it.” According to the NSC, the Million Mile Club status is to professional driving as reaching the peak of Mt. Everest is to the sport of climbing.
“I honestly didn’t think I’d actually make it,” said Hogan. “It’s a privilege to get this, I really appreciate it.”
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.# # #
