WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Jo-Anna Freeman was recently promoted as the manager of the U.S. Postal Service’s Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) in Winston-Salem. Freeman, a postal employee of more than 20 years, replaces Thomas Pierce, who recently retired.

Freeman began her postal career in 1994 at the Greensboro Remote Encoding Center (REC) as a data conversion operator, before moving to the Greensboro Processing and Distribution Center as a flat sorter operator. She worked ad-hoc positions in the Business Mail Entry Unit and Statistical Programs Unit before getting appointed as the general clerk in the Greensboro VMF in 2003. She was promoted to supervisor in 2013, a position she held until her recent appointment.

At the VMF, located at 7840 North Point Boulevard in Winston-Salem, Freeman is responsible for 17 employees, and the maintenance and repair of postal vehicles from 27 Post Offices and facilities in and near the city. Freeman is a New York native and Greensboro resident, and has one daughter. She recently completed her Masters of Business Administration at University of Phoenix and is currently pursuing her doctorate from the same college.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
