WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Winston-Salem Letter Carrier William “Bill” Bray will receive the Joseph M. Kaplan Safe Driver of the Year award recognizing 58 years of accident-free driving.

A celebratory breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at North Point Post Office, located at 7840 North Point Blvd in Winston-Salem.

The Joseph M. Kaplan Safe Driver of the Year Award, presented annually by the National Safety Council, was created to recognize outstanding drivers throughout the country who have driven a significant number of miles/years behind the wheel without incurring a preventable accident. To be eligible for the award, postal employees must meet the minimum requirement of 15 years of service or 100,000 miles driven.

Bray was selected from among 63,000 nominees. “We are honored and privileged to have such an outstanding employee in Winston-Salem achieve this success,” said Postmaster Toni Gorman. “We offer our thanks and congratulations to Mr. Bray for this rare accomplishment.”

Bray was also previously recognized by Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines, who presented the employee with a letter of recognition.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
