Elizabeth City Post Office to Begin Offering Passport Service

ROCKY MOUNT, NC — The U.S. Postal Service is making it more convenient for postal customers needing passport services in the coastal area.

Effective Wednesday, October 13, 2015, customers can apply for a U.S. Passport at the Elizabeth City Post Office located at 1001 W. Ehringhaus St. in Elizabeth City. No appointment is necessary.

Passports will be processed Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Identification, including a copy, is required to prove U.S. citizenship, such as:

  • Previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport
  • Certified birth certificate issued by the city, county, or state
  • Consular report of birth abroad or birth certificate
  • Naturalization certificate
  • Certificate of citizenship

In addition, one current ID is required, such as:

  • Naturalization certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • Current government ID (city, state or federal)
  • Current military ID (military and dependents)

Passport fees are as follows: Adults: Books - $110, Cards - $30; Children (under 16): Books - $80, Cards - $15. USPS Fees: $25 execution fee; photos (if needed) - $15.

If you would prefer to set up an appointment, please call (919) 420-5343 and leave a message for an agent to return your call. All applicants must appear in person (including minors).

Customers can call 1-800-ASK-USPS or go to the Postal Service’s Website www.usps.com to get the location of other nearby passport Post Offices and their passport customer service hours. Passport customers may also check the U.S. State Department’s web site at www.travel.state.gov to obtain additional information.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
