PITTSBORO, NC — As we move into the warmer months, vacationers are preparing for travel by purchasing and updating passports. Postmaster Peter Siragusa is making the process easier by hosting a passport fair in Pittsboro, NC.
The Post Office is located at 916 East Street in Pittsboro and the event will be hosted on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Siragusa encourages applicants to prepare before arriving at the Post Office. “We encourage applicants to have the applications completed before coming as it can reduce your wait time,” he said. “Applications are available on the Department of State website.”
Passport fees are as follows: Adults: Books - $110, Cards - $30; Children (under 16): Books - $80, Cards - $15. USPS Fees: $25 execution fee; photos (if needed) - $15.
Identification, including a copy, is required to prove U.S. citizenship, such as:
- Previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport
- Certified birth certificate issued by the city, county, or state
- Consular report of birth abroad or birth certificate
- Naturalization certificate
- Certificate of citizenship
In addition, one current ID is required, such as:
- Naturalization certificate
- Valid driver's license
- Current government ID (city, state or federal)
- Current military ID (military and dependents)
Customers should allow 15 minutes per transaction, depending upon the number of applicants in a transaction. Individuals preferring to set up an appointment should call (919) 420-5343 and leave a message for an agent to return your call. All applicants must appear in person (including minors).
Customers can call 1-800-ASK-USPS or visit the Postal Service’s Website www.usps.com to get the location of other nearby passport Post Offices and their passport customer service hours. Passport customers may also check the U.S. State Department’s web site at www.travel.state.gov to obtain additional information.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
