OMAHA, NE — The way Omaha Post Offices handle Passport applications is changing. Starting Oct. 5, 2015, all passport applications processed by the Omaha Post Office will be handled by The Omaha Passport Center formerly known as Postal Impressions. The Omaha Passport Center is located at 5346 S. 136 St. in the Deerfield Plaza, and will serve all of Omaha’s passport needs.
“Consolidating all passport operations into one location will improve efficiency and cut the processing time in half, from 20 minutes to 10 minutes in most cases,” said Omaha Postmaster Keith Reid.
Hours of operation for the Passport Center will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. As all passports will be by appointment only, customers must call The Omaha Passport Center at (402) 891-1922 to set up an appointment. Postcards were mailed to Omahans to inform them of the change.
Reid recommends applicants bring all paperwork required for a passport when they show up for their appointment. A list of all required documentation for a passport is available on the U.S. Department of State website at travel.state.gov. Passport applicants are advised to complete the application at home, print it, and bring the completed forms, along with all required documentation, to their appointment. An important note; applicants must not sign the forms until witnessed in front of the clerk (agent). Additional documents may be required and can be found on the website.
Passport photos are available at the Passport Center or customers can bring their own. Photos must meet specific requirements, which are listed on the state travel website.
Those with questions about the passport application process may call the Passport Center at (402) 891-1922 or by email omahapassportcenter@usps.gov. The State Department recommends passport applications be submitted 6-8 weeks before the date of travel.
The new Passport Center is located at the current site of the Postal Impressions Retail Station, which will continue to offer Post Office Box and some limited retail services.
