Epping Postmaster Appointed

January 20, 2010

Release No.  10-57

PORTLAND — Charles V. Fisher recently took the Postmaster Oath of Office and was officially installed as Postmaster of Epping.

The ceremony took place at the Epping Post Office. Fisher’s family and co-workers attended in addition to officials from the Postal Service’s district office in Portland, ME. One of those officials was Epping resident Shawn Patton, manager of Operations Programs Support for the Northern New England District of the U.S. Postal Service. Fisher’s wife Janet held the bible as he was sworn in by Northern New England Lead Executive Deborah C. Essler.

Fisher has 43 years of federal service. He started his postal career in 1968 as a clerk in Roslindale, MA. He entered management in 1978 and since then has held a number of positions in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. He also worked for 10 years at USPS headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Fisher thinks his wide postal experience will serve him well as postmaster. “I want to provide Epping residents with the best mail service at lowest possible cost,” he said. He and his wife live in Manchester.

Fisher is the just the second person to hold the title of Epping Postmaster since 1972, when Jesse P. Brooks was appointed. Brooks held the position until 2008. A number of managers have served as officers-in-charge until Fisher’s recent appointment.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.
