Statue Dedication Ceremony to feature special postmark

As part of the Justice William J. Brennan Jr statue dedication ceremony, officials to unveil an enlargement of the postage stamp featuring Justice Brennan’s image and offer a unique postmark commemorating the gala event.

Background:
Official will unveil a 3ft X 4ft enlargement of the 44-cent Justice William J. Brennan Jr. stamp and offer a specially designed postmark commemorating the June 3, 2010, dedication of the Justice William J. Brennan Jr. statue.

A native of Essex County New Jersey and graduate of Newark’s Barringer High School, Justice William J. Brennan Jr was a highly respected and influential member of the U. S. Supreme Court from 1956-1990. He was the author of numerous landmark decisions, believed that law is an essential force for social and political change, championed equal rights for all citizens, and steadfastly regarded the Constitution as a living document.

If unable to attend event, customers have 60 days to obtain the special postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office, at The Postal Store at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes to themselves or others, and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the special postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by August 3, 2010.
