The Area Mail Processing proposal supports consolidating mail processing operations that are currently being performed at the Kilmer Processing & Distribution Center in Edison by taking advantage of available processing capacity at the Dominick V. Daniels Processing & Distribution in Kearny in order to increase efficiency and improve productivity. While no decisions have been reached, Postal Service managers will give an overview of the reasons for the proposal and its possible outcomes, and will listen to community input and concerns. Mail volume has decreased by 20 percent since 2007 across the country, leaving the Postal Service with an excess capacity of equipment, staff and facilities to process a declining volume of mail. |
