Elvis Presley signature postmark

Edison, NJ — A whole lotta’ shakin’ was goin’ on Friday afternoon on the front lawn at the Kilmer Post Office in Edison as officials and fans of Elvis Presley celebrated the issuance of the new Elvis Presley Commemorative Forever postage stamp.  With a vintage 1959 Ford Thunderbird as a backdrop, USPS Northern New Jersey District Manager Steven Hernandez and Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey were joined by other postal officials to unveil a 38”X38” enlargement of the new Elvis Presley Forever stamp.  A special August 14 local pictorial postmark featuring Elvis Presley’s signature was used to cancel stamps and provide a souvenir.

The new Elvis Presley Commemorative Forever stamp features a 1955 black-and-white photograph of Presley taken by William Speer. In the bottom left corner, between the words “Forever” and “USA”, is a small gold crown, a nod to Presley’s nickname, The King of Rock and Roll™. Presley’s signature, in gold ink, is also featured along the right side. Elvis Presley previously appeared on a U.S. postage stamp in 1993. The Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum calls that stamp the most popular U.S. commemorative stamp of all time.

For those fans who couldn’t make it to the Kilmer Post Office celebration on August 14, Northern New Jersey District Retail Manager Tracey Hollingsworth indicates customers can also obtain the special Elvis Presley postmark by affixing stamps to an envelope or postcard, address the envelopes or postcards to yourself or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in the flap.  Place the envelopes or postcards in larger envelopes and address them to:

Elvis Presley Pictorial Postmark
Postmaster,
21 Kilmer Road
Edison, NJ 08899-9998

Mail order requests must be sent to the Postmaster and postmarked no later than September 14.  For extensive information about the new Elvis Presley Commemorative Forever Stamp and related collectibles log onto USPS.com.
