East Orange, NJ — The U.S. Postal Service is hiring 500 new employees at facilities throughout Northern New Jersey.  Officials from the U.S. Postal Service Northern New Jersey District and the City of East Orange are partnering on a special Job Fair at 44 City Hall Plaza on Tuesday, September 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  The general public is encouraged to attend to learn about the current postal employment opportunities and how to apply online.  USPS human resources professionals will be on hand to answer questions and assist attendees with their applications.

Currently, the open postal positions in Northern New Jersey include: City Carriers, Rural Carriers, Clerks, Mail Handler Assistants, Tractor Trailer Operators, and holiday season temporary Casuals. Employment applications are accepted online at www.usps.com/careers.  Potential candidates with questions about applying for the open positions in Northern New Jersey can contact Human Resources Generalist Sabrina Albacete at 732-819-3845.

By the time a new hire is on the rolls, the Postal Service will have performed a background check in each county of residence for the past five years, search of sex offender registries, a drug screening, and a motor vehicle record check if hired for a position that requires driving.  In addition, a multi-component Office of Personnel Management investigation is conducted that includes a fingerprint check of FBI's criminal database and employment verifications.  Applicants with a military background are required to provide their official document of separation (DD Form 214).

Both literally and figuratively, the Postal Service delivers for America.  Even in an increasingly digital world, the Postal Service remains part of the bedrock infrastructure of the American economy, serving its people and businesses, and binding the nation together.  The core function of the Postal Service is the safe, reliable, affordable delivery of mail and packages to every address in America and its territories.  With $67.8 billion in revenue in 2014, the Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

“We appreciate the City of East Orange hosting the September 15 job fair at City Hall,” says USPS Northern New Jersey District A/Human Resources Manager Rita Ridley. “We are looking forward to helping job seekers begin the process of applying for the 500 open postal positions in Northern New Jersey.”
