Northern NJ — Area residents looking for work are just four clicks away from a first-class job opportunity with the U.S. Postal Service. Northern New Jersey human resources postal officials are currently looking to fill 150 City Carrier Associate and 100 Rural Carrier Associate vacant positions. To apply, a candidate profile and application must be completed in the career section of the Postal Service’s website at www.usps.com/careers. The next hiring cycle runs April 19 – 24. Officials recommend checking the website weekly as positions are added regularly.
A City Carrier Assistant delivers and collects mail on foot or by vehicle under varying road and weather conditions in a prescribed area; maintains professional and effective public relations with customers and others, and requires a general familiarity with postal laws, regulations, products and geography of the area.
A Rural Carrier Associate also sorts, delivers, and collects mail using either a vehicle provided by the Postal Service or the employee's own vehicle, for which he/she will be compensated. The employee provides customers on the route with a variety of services.
The salary for a City Carrier Assistant is $16.06 an hour and Rural Carrier Associate is $16.65 an hour. These employees are required to work weekdays and weekends, as needed. Work schedules may include Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Applicants must have a valid state driver's license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of documented driving experience. A written exam is required and background checks are performed on applicants.
Officials emphasize there is no fee to apply for a position with the U.S. Postal Service. Feel free to email any questions to USPS Northern New Jersey District Staffing Assistant Sakenia Williams at: sakenia.williams@usps.gov.
