Northern, NJ — On Monday, April 18 last minute tax filers can take advantage of the 20 Northern New Jersey Post Offices that are regularly open till 7 p.m. on weekdays. They include: Basking Ridge, Bayonne, Colonia, Edgewater, Lake Hiawatha, Linden, Little Falls, Main Avenue Station in Clifton, Maplewood, Metuchen, Monroe, Montclair, Newark Main Post Office, Parlin, Somerville, Tenafly, Warren (Somerset County), West Orange, Woodbridge, and Woodcliff Station in North Bergen.
Northern New Jersey postal officials offer the following tips for those filing tax returns by mail:
- Ensure proper postage is affixed on your tax returns. The first ounce (about three sheets of paper) on a letter-sized envelope is 47 cents (One Forever stamp). The first ounce on a larger flat-sized envelope (bigger than 6 1/8 inches X 11 1/2 inches) is 94 cents. Additional ounces are 21 cents each for both size mail pieces.
- Make sure your tax return envelope has the proper Internal Revenue Service or NJ Division of Taxation address and ZIP Code.
- Place your return address in the upper left corner of the envelope.
- Customers wanting proof their tax forms are mailed and received should use Certified Mail /Return Receipt service, which is available at your local Post Office during regular business hours.
The James A. Farley Main Post Office at 421 Eight Avenue in Manhattan, across the street from Penn Station, is the only Post Office in the New York Metropolitan area that is open till midnight.
