South Hackensack NJ – He’s delivered mail to generations of Bergen County residents. On Wednesday, November 2, Teterboro carrier Tony Alcuri was recognized for 50 years of service by senior postal officials and his fellow employees at a ceremony at the South Hackensack Post Office. Postal officials recognizing Alcuri included: Northern New Jersey District Manager Steven Hernandez, Northern New Jersey District Post Office Operations Manager John Mateo, and Hackensack Postmaster Anthony LoPrinzi. Mr. Alcuri, a Carlstadt resident, also received a special letter of recognition from Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan.
When Tony Alcuri began his career as a city carrier at the Hackensack Post Office in September 1966, Lyndon Johnson was President and Lawrence F. Obrien was the Postmaster General. Fifty years ago there were no cell phones, I-Pads, lap tops, hover boards, Starbucks Coffee, Egg McMuffins, Chicken McNuggets, or Wi-fi. Things have certainly changed since 1966; but one thing has remained constant --- Tony Alcuri’s commitment to the customers on his route. Early in his career Alcuri worked on several routes in the Hackensack area; but for the last 30 years he has been delivering to the one postal carrier route that covers the Borough of Teterboro.
The Postmaster General’s letter of recognition to Tony Alcuri read in part: “A career spanning a half-century is certainly indicative of your unique dedication and commitment to our organization’s success…It is an accomplishment you should be proud of, and it deserves the admiration of our fellow employees and your community as well.”
