DETAILS: |
Morristown Letter carrier Lorenzo Clark was delivering mail when he heard a faint noise from inside the home of an elderly woman on his route. The carrier was able to determine the resident had fallen and was lying on the floor. After gaining permission from the resident, Clark entered the home to come to the resident’s aid. The carrier stayed with her until first responders arrived. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. Postmaster Peters learned of Mr. Clark’s life-saving efforts when the resident’s son-in-law contacted the Postmaster to express his appreciation and recognize the carrier for coming to the aid of his mother-in-law. As serendipity would have it, the son-in-law is a retired Morristown letter carrier. Mr. Clark is receiving a special hero award from the USPS Northern New Jersey District Manager Steven Hernandez and a proclamation from Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty. The Morristown carrier has also been recognized by U.S. Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan with a National Hero Award. The Postal Service Chief Executive Officer’s letter of commendation to Lorenzo Clark read in part: “I want to commend your selfless display of civic duty. You deserve the highest level of admiration for coming to the aid of a woman who had fallen insider her home. I am proud of the way you handled this situation, and I am pleased to know, too, that her grateful family members include a former letter carrier. Thank you for being the eyes and ears of your community…” |
