Edison Letter Carriers Earn Million Mile Safe Driving Awards

EDISON, NJ — Surrounded by co-workers, thirteen safety conscious Edison letter carriers were recognized at the Main Post Office today with the National Safety Council’s prestigious Million Mile Award. The award is presented to professional drivers for operating a motor vehicle on the job for more than one million miles without a preventable accident. Reaching this unique milestone requires 30+ years of service and an unwavering attention to safety.

The Million Mile carriers included: Joyce Abry, John Balistreri, Maryellen Boyle, Thomas Boyle, Gregory Giovenco, James Kenny, Keith Mcdede, William Paltan, Angela Sweat, Philip Valenti, Robert Ruggieri, David Wybraniec, and Michael Matula.

In addition to Edison Postmaster Harron Malik, USPS Northern New Jersey District Manger Eric Henry, USPS Northern New Jersey District Post Office Operations Manager Ed Quinn USPS Northern New Jersey District Human Resources Manager Michael Rizzolo, and National Association of Letter Carriers Union Branch #38 Vice President Dan Szuchs were on hand to help present the awards and congratulate the Million Mile carriers for their remarkable safety records. To put this achievement in perspective, you would have to travel around the earth 40.1 times to cover one million miles.

The presentation of the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award reflects the Postal Service’s commitment to safety and pride in its employees who provide excellent service, while safeguarding themselves and the neighborhoods they serve.
