Senior postal managers, municipal officials, and representatives from the letter carriers union will recognize three current and one former Berkeley Heights letter carriers for their superior on-the-job 30-year safe driving performance. The highlight of the recognition ceremony will be the presentation of the National Safety Council’s Million Mile award plaques. The Million Mile award is presented to professional drivers who have driven one million miles without a preventable accident.
Charles Douress, Christopher Cunningham, and Melvin Jones are Berkeley Heights letter carriers. Earl Lewis is a former Berkeley Heights carrier who transferred to nearby Gillette.
The National Safety Council’s Million Mile aware is an extraordinary milestone for professional drivers. As perspective, you would have to drive more than 40.1 times around the earth to reach one million miles.
