2012 Postage Stamp to Honor New Mexico’s Centennial

Stamp Artwork to be Unveiled Sept. 7th on the Santa Fe Plaza

The artwork selected for next year’s U.S. commemorative postage stamp honoring New Mexico’s centennial will be unveiled for the first time at a special ceremony hosted by the United States Postal Service and the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and its Centennial Committee.

Background:

The U.S. Postal Service will commemorate the centennial of New Mexico’s statehood next year with the issuance of a new “Forever” postage stamp. The design for the new stamp will be unveiled by Gov. Martinez along with Yasmin Montano, newly-appointed postmaster of Santa Fe during a brief ceremony.

Gov. Martinez will not only reveal the stamp image, but will introduce the New Mexico artist responsible for creating the artwork used on the stamp. She will also announce next year’s official date of issuance for the new commemorative stamp.

The public is invited to attend.

New Mexico was officially welcomed as the 47th State in the Union on Jan. 6, 1912, when President William H. Taft signed the statehood legislation.
