Automated Postal Center Makes Mailing

Quicker, Easier, More Convenient

June 01, 2009

Brooklyn, NY — Kensington’s Station’s Postmaster Joseph Chiossone, knows his customers lead busy lives, and so he is pleased to offer access to a Automated Postal Center in the lobby of the Post Office at 419 McDonald Avenue. Automated Postal Centers (APCs) are the Postal Service’s version of the banking industry's ATMs. APCs are self-service kiosks that accept credit or debit cards and perform the majority of postal transactions.

Using credit or debit cards, customers can use an APC to:

  • Purchase self-adhesive stamps.
  • Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in any amount for items weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Send items via Express Mail, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail and Parcel Post Services.
  • Look up ZIP Codes and obtain mailing information.
  • Obtain Express Mail, Certified Mail, and Return Receipts.
  • Purchase Delivery Confirmation Service.
  • Purchase Insurance ($200 maximum).
  • Obtain a receipt.
  • APCs are located next to a convenient parcel slot that accepts packages up to 12"H x 14"D x 20"W.

Chiossone said “The new Automated Postal Center (APC) will improve service tremendously at Kensington Station because it gives customers another alternative. Rather than using the service window, customers can use the APC for most postal transactions.” The APC is available to Kensington postal patrons Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A total of 15 Post Offices in the Brooklyn area offer Automated Postal Centers. They are Cadman Plaza Station, Parkville Station, Pratt Station, Fort Hamilton Station, Bath Beech Station, Van Brunt Station, Times Plaza, Blythebourne Station, Greenpoint Station, Gravesend Station, Homecrest Retail Station, Kingsway Retail, Midwood Station and our newest location at Kensington.
