New York Postal Officials Announce Holiday Service Adjustments

BROOKLYN/QUEENS/STATEN ISLAND, NY — Triboro Postal officials are advising the public that adjustments will be made to retail hours and mail collections for the Christmas holiday. All Post Offices will be open Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24th, but many will adjust retail lobby hours by closing at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon. Revised hours will be posted at each Post Office.

On December 25th all Post Offices in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Western Long Island (ZIP Code areas 103-110-111-112-113-114-116) will be closed. There will be no regular mail delivery, except for Express Mail. All Post Offices will resume normal service on Saturday, December 26th.

Postal customers are encouraged to visit www.usps.com or call 1-800-ASK-USPS for information about specific Post Office hours.

For customer convenience on the holiday, there are two Triboro Area Post Offices that offer 24-hour access to Automated Postal Center’s (APC), the Postal Service’s version of the ATM. The APC’s can be found at the following locations:

Staten Island Main Post Office

Staten Island, NY 10314

Using credit and debit cards, the APC enables customers to:

  • Buy self-adhesive stamps.
  • Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in amounts for items weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Send items via Express, Priority, and First-Class Mails, as well as by Parcel Post.
  • Purchase insurance up to $500.
  • Look up ZIP Codes and obtain Postal Service mailing information.
  • Obtain Certified Mail, Delivery Confirmation and Return Receipts.
  • Obtain a receipt.
