BRONX, NY — Customers visiting the Main Post Office in the Bronx, at 558 Grand Concourse, may not know that they can take advantage of 24/7 service from the Postal Service’s version of the ATM, the Automated Postal Center (APC). The APC delivers quick, easy, and convenient access to postal services around the clock, seven days a week.
“Automated Postal Centers provide easy access to postal products and services just as ATMs provide easy access to banking services,” said Aracelis Osorio, Postmaster of the Bronx. “To customers, one is a self-service bank, while the other is a self-service Post Office. Unlike many ATMs, APCs don’t add transaction fees. Beyond expanding customer access, the APC enables our customers to conduct business with us at their convenience.”
The APC enables customers to conduct business at their convenience.
Using credit and debit cards, the APC enables customers to:
- Buy self-adhesive stamps.
- Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in amounts for items weighing up to 70 lbs.
- end items via Express, Priority, and First-Class Mails, as well as by Parcel Post.
- Purchase insurance up to $500.
- Look up ZIP Codes and obtain Postal Service mailing information.
- Obtain Express Mail, Certified Mail, and Return Receipts.
- Purchase Delivery Confirmation service.
- Obtain a receipt.
“Customers also have 24/7 access to their Post Office Box mail,” said Postmaster Osorio.
For more complex transactions, Postmaster Osorio recommends using the window service which is available from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday to Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
