Postal Service Goes to the Dogs (and Cats) in North Syracuse

Pet Friendly Event at Main Post Office Saturday Welcomes New Stamp

May 01, 2010

Rescue StampsOn April 30, the Postal Service will issue the Animal Rescue - Adopt A Shelter Pet stamps.  The stamp series is a win-win for the Postal Service, with a strong message that has positive implications for safety for our carriers on the street and for responsible pet ownership by all.

To celebrate the new stamp and to underscore its important message, the Syracuse Post Office has teamed up with several local groups for a pet-friendly, community event.

On Saturday, May 1st, from 10 am until 1 pm, you and your family pets are invited to meet Lisa Chelenza, the popular host of Pet Pointers on YNN Time Warner Cable on the front lawn of the Taft Road General Mail Facility (5640 East Taft Road).

Spay and Neuter Syracuse (SANS) will be on site, offering micro chipping for $20.  We will have rescue hounds and the Taft Road Humane Society, both bringing pets in need of loving homes.   The regional chapter of the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network is also scheduled to participate.

The County Health Department will provide information on rabies and vaccinations.  We hope to stage an animal agility course with a local kennel club on the front lawn along with other activities related to pets, pet ownership and safety.

And, of course, we will have sales of the new Animal Rescue - Adopt A Shelter Pet stamps.

Good dogs on leashes with tags are invited to join us on Saturday, May 1st.   We hope your family, and family pet, can be with us for this event.   Don’t forget…bring your camera!
