Lindenhurst Post Office Salutes Scouting With Stamp

August 16, 2010

WHAT:
The U.S. Postal Service will be dedicating the new 44-cent First-Class Mail Scouting stamp with a ceremony at Lindenhurst Village Hall. Scouts and their family are welcome to the ceremony. In celebration of 100 years in U.S. scouting, scouts of every age are asked all to send in a copy of a picture of their scouting days. Please realize that we will not be able to return the picture because it will become part of a display that will be on view for the public during the ceremony, and hopefully after the ceremony at an undetermined location within our community. All submitted pictures should contain the scout’s name, date of the picture, which group they belong to (Pack 1421, Troop 1421 and etc.) and their contact information (address, telephone number and e-mail address). The pictures can be mailed via the U.S. Postal Service or e-mail to the following address: Mrs. Robin Moller, 261 South 6th Street, Lindenhurst, New York 11757. E-Mail: Pack1421@gmail.com Because of a tight time schedule, all submissions must be postmarked no later then August 21, 2010.

The Boy Scouts of America celebrated its 100th anniversary Feb. 8, 2010. To mark this milestone, the organization has undertaken celebration efforts nationwide that reintroduce the organization to today’s young people and families, reinforcing the value of scouting and reconnecting with the millions the organization has affected. A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
