Carousel Center’s Post Office To Close

Lease ends postal tenancy

February 18, 2011

Syracuse — Service at Syracuse’s Carousel Center Postal Station will end at the close of business on Friday, April 1, postal officials announced today. Post office box holders will receive official notification in today’s mail.

This marks the end of the current lease agreement between the Postal Service and Carousel Center. No agreement between the parties was reached in lease negotiations over the past year and no additional negotiation for space is expected.

Service for the post office boxes using Carousel Center’s 13290 Zip Code will be provided by Franklin Square Station which, at 401 West Division Street, is approximately one half mile away. No change of address for those customers will be required.

In addition to 155 mall tenants with post office boxes, there are approximately 200 post office boxes rented at Carousel. There is currently no store-to-store delivery of mails for mall tenants. Alternate service for those tenants who do not wish to continue post office box service at Franklin Square Station is being explored.

A public hearing for affected customers will be held to further identify options for tenants and other postal customers. A date and location for that hearing will be announced, according to local postal officials.

The Postal Service has been a tenant in Carousel Center since the complex opened in October 1990.
