US Postal Service Observes Labor Day

New York City Post Offices Closed for the Holiday

MANHATTAN, BRONX, BROOKLYN, QUEENS, STATEN ISLAND, NY – All Post Offices throughout the five boroughs will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, in observance of the Labor Day federal holiday. There will be no regular mail delivery. Only Express Mail will be delivered on Sept. 5. All Post Offices will re-open with regular mail delivery and collections resuming on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Customers requiring postal services over the Labor Day holiday can take advantage of the following select Post Offices throughout New York City that offer 24/7 access to Automated Postal Centers (APCs) in their lobbies. They include:

Using credit and debit cards, the APC enables customers to:

  • Buy self-adhesive stamps.
  • Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in amounts for items weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Send items via Express, Priority, and First-Class Mail, as well as by Parcel Post.
  • Purchase insurance up to $500.
  • Look up ZIP Codes and obtain Postal Service mailing information.
  • Obtain Certified Mail, Delivery Confirmation and Return Receipts and mailings.
