Uncovering Brooklyn’s assets:

15 more places to ship packages, buy stamps beyond the Post Office

May 18, 2012

BROOKLYN NY — Memorial Day means those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are on the way and a trip to the post office? Well, that is probably not on your vacation list.

But if you need to get your packages there before the holiday and during the summer — whether across the ocean or stateside — take advantage of U.S. Postal Service Contract Postal Units. Located right in Brooklyn neighborhoods inside grocery stores, drug stores or other local businesses, access to these timesaving postal locations is comparable to a visit to official postal locations where services are provided at the same price.

“Whether you visit a post office or one of our Contract Postal Units, there are no added fees,” said Brooklyn Postmaster Edward Roggenkamp. “But our contract sites do offer extra convenience near to where you work, live or shop.”

At Contract Postal Units, shipping items to foreign destinations is as easy as fitting them into a Flat Rate envelope or box that ships at one low rate.

Choose from any of the six Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes, including the Priority Mail Legal Flat Rate Envelope, Priority Mail Padded Flat Rate Envelope and Priority Mail Flat Rate at $12.95 to Canada and Mexico, and $16.95 to all other international destinations. There are four additional Priority Mail Flat Rate Box options that can be used for shipping up to 20 pounds to international destinations for low flat rates. Pricing to U.S. destinations starts at $5.15. All available at any Contract Postal Unit.

Roggenkamp recommends the following list of official postal partners throughout Brooklyn as well as dozens more located in Brooklyn businesses. They also can be found at https://tools.usps.com/go/POLocatorAction.action or by calling 800-USPS-ASK (800-275-8777).

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
