Local postal operations continue to recover after the temporary suspensions of delivery and retail services around the region in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

UPDATE:  Postal officials note that Social Security checks (SSI) due for delivery on November 1st and 2nd will be delivered in those locations where mail services will be restored. This includes mail for zip codes:  

NEW YORK:

  • 10017 -10044;  10055, 10065, 10069, 10075, 10087, 10096
  • 10101 - 10126; 10128,1012910131,10132, 10138
  • 10150 - 10155; 10162, 10163, 10165 - 10169; 10170 -10179, 10185, 10199
  • 10203, 10211, 10213, 10249, 10256, 10259, 10260, 10261, 10265

BRONX:  104
BROOKLYN:

In locations where deliveries cannot be made and where the local post office is also inaccessible, officials note that local ZIP Codes will require a customer pickup of the SS check at an alternate postal site.   Those ZIP Codes and the locations include:

  • Coney Island Post Office, 2727 Mermaid Avenue, for SSI checks destined to 11224
  •  Red Hook Post Office, 615 Clinton Street, for SSI checks destined to 11231
  • There will be delivery to ZIP Code 11235 but SSI checks for the Post Office Box Section will be handled at a mobile postal unit outside the Brighton postal facility at 3157 Coney Island Avenue

QUEENS

  • JAMAICA:  Post Office Box Customers only from Howard Beach and B Station Finance Unit are directed to Ozone Park Finance Station, 911 Liberty Avenue, in Jamaica
  • All SSI checks for Zip Codes 11691 and Inwood (11096) will be available at postal unit in front of Rockaway Main PO at 1836 Mott Ave., from 10 am to 1 pm
  • All SSI checks for Arverne 11692 and the Broad Channel Routes will be available at postal unit in front of Arverne Post Office located at 329 Beach 59th Street  from 10 am to 1 pm
  • All SSI checks for Rockaway Beach (11693), Rockaway Park (11694) and 11697 will be available at Mobile Unit in front of Rockaway Park Post Office located at 11325 Beach Channel Drive from 10 am to 1 pm.
  • Remaining checks from these mobile units will be available at Jamaica Main Post Office lobby located at: 88-40 164th St in Jamaica for additional distribution between 2 pm and 4 pm.

No checks will be released without proper identification.  This includes a photo identification and identification bearing the address exactly as it appears on the check. One form of ID meeting both requirements, such as a current driver’s license, is sufficient.
In Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, customers with questions or concerns about their mail should call 718-348-3900 or 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).
