Post Offices Open New Year’s Eve

Most Will Close at 5pm

TRIBORO NY – (Covering Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Western Long Island) – Postal officials are advising the public that all Post Offices will be open on December 31, 2013 New Year’s Eve with most closing at 5:00pm.  On January 1, 2014 in observance of New Year’s Day all Post Offices in ZIP Code areas: 103-110-111-112-113-114 and 116) will be closed. There will be no regular mail delivery, except for Priority Express Mail.  All Post Offices will resume normal service on January 2, 2014.

Each Post Office will post its revised hours of operation for New Year’s Eve.  Commercial mail customers should check with their Business Mail Entry Units for Dec. 31 hours of operation.

Customers are encouraged to go online to usps.com or call 800-ASK-USPS for information about specific Post Offices.  For customer convenience the following locations have 24-hour access to Self Service Kiosks (SSK), the Postal Service’s version of the ATM.  The SSK enables customers using a credit or debit card to buy stamps, find a ZIP Code, weigh, calculate postage and ship mail at their convenience and so much more.

Using credit and debit cards, the SSK enables customers to:

  • Buy self-adhesive stamps.
  • Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in amounts for items weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Send items via Express, Priority, and First-Class Mails, as well as by Parcel Post.
  • Purchase insurance up to $500.
  • Look up ZIP Codes and obtain Postal Service mailing information.
  • Obtain Certified Mail, Delivery Confirmation and Return Receipts.
  • Obtain a receipt.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
