Big Apple Post Offices Open Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve

NEW YORK CITY – (5 Boroughs plus Western Long Island) – Postal officials are advising the public that all post offices will be open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve with most retail offices having regular business hours and some with slight adjustments.
Each Post Office will post its revised hours of operation. Customers are encouraged to go online to usps.com or call 800-ASK-USPS for information about specific post offices.  
Post Office Retail Hours in NYC on Dec 24 and Dec 31 –

  • All offices in Manhattan and the Bronxwill adjust hours and close at 12:00 noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’seve with the exception of the following and the extended closingtime:
    • James A Farley 5PM
    • FDR Station 5PM
    • Manhattanville Station 5PM
    • Church Street Station 5PM
    • Fort George Station 4PM
    • Bronx GPO 5PM
  • All offices in Brooklyn, Queens, StatenIsland (And Western Long Island ZIP Codes110 and 116) will maintain regular retail business hours.

Commercial mail customers should check with their Business Mail Entry Units for Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 hours of operation.

For customer convenience the following locations have 24-hour access to Self Service Kiosks (SSK), the Postal Service’s version of the ATM.  The SSK enables customers using a credit or debit card to buy stamps, find a ZIP Code, weigh, calculate postage and ship mail at their convenience and so much more.

Using credit and debit cards, the SSK enables customers to:

  • Buyself-adhesive stamps.
  • Weigh, calculateand purchase postage in amounts for items weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Send items viaExpress, Priority, and First-Class Mails, as well as by Parcel Post.
  • Purchaseinsurance.
  • Look up ZIPCodes and obtain Postal Service mailing information.
  • Obtain CertifiedMail, Delivery Confirmation and Return Receipts.
  • Obtain areceipt.

In observance of the holidays, Post Offices will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25, and January 1. However, as a convenience to customers; Priority Express Mail will be delivered. Post Offices will resume regular business hours on Friday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, 2014, respectfully.
Postal services, including buying stamps and gifts, paying for postage and Post Office Boxes, and other transactions, are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at usps.com.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
