NEW YORK CITY – Postal officials are advising the public that all post offices will be open on New Year’s Eve with many retail offices having regular business hours and some with slight adjustments.
Each Post Office will post its revised hours of operation. Customers are also encouraged to go online to usps.com or call 800-ASK-USPS for information about specific post offices.
Post Office Retail Hours in New York City on New Year’s Eve, Dec 31 –
- All offices in Manhattan and the Bronx will adjust hours and close at 12:00 noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. As a convenience to customers some retail counters will open as follows:
- James A Farley 5PM
- FDR Station 5PM
- Manhattanville Station 5PM
- Church Street Station 5PM
- Fort George Station 4PM
- Bronx GPO 5PM
All offices in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island All Triboro District Stations will close at 5pm including stations that are normally extended past 5pm. Employees are standing by for customers to pick up their holiday packages. In addition, Business Mail Entry Units for will remain open until 5pm.
Commercial mail customers may also check with their Business Mail Entry Units for Dec. 31 hours of operation.
For customer convenience the following locations have 24-hour access to Self Service Kiosks (SSK), the Postal Service’s version of the ATM. The SSK enables customers using a credit or debit card to buy stamps, find a ZIP Code, weigh, calculate postage and ship mail at their convenience and so much more.

Using credit and debit cards, the SSK enables customers to:
- Buy self-adhesive stamps.
- Weigh, calculate and purchase postage in amounts for items weighing up to 70 lbs.
- Send items via Express, Priority, and First-Class Mails, as well as by Parcel Post.
- Purchase insurance.
- Look up ZIP Codes and obtain Postal Service mailing information.
- Obtain Certified Mail, Delivery Confirmation and Return Receipts.
- Obtain a receipt.
In observance of the holiday, Post Offices will be closed on New Years Day, January 1, 2015. However, as a convenience to customers; Priority Express Mail will be delivered. Post Offices will resume regular business hours on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.
Postal services, including buying stamps and gifts, paying for postage and Post Office Boxes, and other transactions, are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at usps.com.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
