NEWBURGH, NY — Every holiday season Newburgh Post Office employees open and respond to Santa letters from local children. The employees’ responses usually include children’s gifts like coloring books, pencils, and stickers.  “This year when Supervisor Judith Sullivan opened a particular letter it caught her attention that a family had no food, gifts or even a Christmas tree as the mom was involved in a motor vehicle accident,” explained Postmaster Robert Dini. “We reached out to the family and the employees took up a collection and donated gifts, food and purchased gift cards from the local supermarket,” emphasized the Newburgh Postmaster.**

“Our employees really step up each year and make a difference,” added Dini. Two years ago the Newburgh employees assisted a family by getting them heating fuel for the winter since the child’s Santa letter stated how cold they were.

The Newburgh letters to Santa initiative is another example of postal employees’ commitment to public service and how they go the extra mile for their customers and communities every day.

“It's very rewarding to know what a great bunch of employees we have,” concluded the Newburgh Postmaster.
