What:

Full scale emergency preparedness drill with a complete facility evacuation, emergency first responders, and hazmat decontamination of volunteer employees.

Who:

U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, NY State Police, NY State Dept. of Health, NY State Office of Emergency Management, Purchase Fire Department, Harrison Police Department, Harrison Emergency Medical Services, Westchester County Office of Emergency Management, Westchester County Hazmat, Westchester County Dept. of Health, and Westchester County Hospital.

When:

Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.

Where:

U.S.P.S. Westchester Processing & Distribution Center
1000 Westchester Avenue
White Plains, New York 10610-9998

Details:

A simulated alarm will trigger a complete evacuation by 260 employees from the 460,524 sq. ft. USPS Processing & Distribution Center. The emergency response will include: police cars, fire trucks, EMS vehicles, hazmat equipment and decontamination tents. Volunteer postal employees will go through the actual decontamination process.  

The exercise is designed to identify strengths and opportunities to improve employee and community safety by simulating an emergency and evaluating the response from the Postal Service, Postal Inspection Service, emergency services, health care providers, law enforcement, and other first responders.
