MECHANICVILLE — It may be a little more difficult to zip into the Mechanicville Post Office starting next week.  But construction at that location will deliver a first class set of front steps, regional postal officials report.

The construction project at the Post Office at 18 South Main Street is scheduled to begin Monday, when the Postal Service observes the Columbus Day federal holiday.    Postal officials advise that all postal services resume on Tuesday and will continue as usual during the construction period in Mechanicville.

Customers should be alert to temporary changes to access to the facility and to the familiar blue collection box outside the building over the next several weeks:

  • Customers will have to use the current handicap ramp while stairs are being replaced.
  • When stairs are completed, the handicap ramp may close for a short time for additional minor fixes.
  • The outside blue collection box will be moved closer to the street in front of the post office. Collection times will not change.
  • Parking will not be impacted.

Postal officials remind all postal customers to be alert to instructions provided on signs from the construction crew, heavy equipment in motion, construction materials, and other pedestrians or drivers who are using a different path to the Post Office during this period.

The work is expected to approximately seven to nine weeks.

There is also no impact to delivery services made by the Post Office as a result of the work.
