Jotham Holmes was the first recorded postmaster in Saratoga Springs, assuming that office on July 1, 1802. Ms. Capone, a native of Saratoga Springs, is the first woman to serve as postmaster in this community. The traditional installation ceremony includes a public oath of office that says, in part, I will conduct myself in the highest possible manner so that I will not bring disrepute on myself or the Postal Service and its employees. Monday’s ceremony will take place in the main lobby area of the Saratoga Springs Post Office on Broadway, a neoclassical construction of the fabled ‘Gilded Age’ that was built in 1910, under budget, at a cost of $122, 549.74. Saratoga Springs Post Office on Broadway was entered in to the National Historic Register on May 11, 1989. |
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
