
NEW YORK, NY — In the interest of safety and security, postal officials will seal the Postal Service’s collection boxes along the parade route for the 2016 NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums Parade taking place on Friday, Sept. 9, in New York City.
The familiar blue collection boxes will be sealed, and in some cases removed, after the final scheduled collection of mail on Thursday, Sept. 8. All impacted collection boxes will be reopened on Saturday morning, Sept. 10.
Postal officials advise local customers to make plans to mail outgoing items on Thursday or Saturday morning accordingly.
Parade Route Impacting Collection Boxes for U.S. Mail in these areas:
- Both sides of Liberty Street between Trinity Street and Nassau Street
- Both sides of Cedar Street between Liberty Street and Nassau Street
- Both sides of Broadway between John Street and Battery Place
- Both sides of Battery Place between Broadway and West Thames
- Both sides of West Thames between Battery Place and South End Avenue
- Both sides of South End Avenue between West Thames and Liberty Street
- Both sides of Liberty Street between South End Avenue and West Street
