New York, NY — In collaboration with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Bronx postal officials will be expanding the number of familiar blue collection boxes receiving an important security facelift.
Over the next several months security enhancement efforts will include the communities of Kingsbridge – 10463; Riverdale – 10471; Williamsbridge – 10467; Fordham – 10458 and Jerome – 10468.
The Postal Service will be modifying several hundred collection boxes to safeguard and ensure that boxes on the street are as safe as possible—to protect the US Mail and the customers who use them.
“The urgency of protecting the mail is critical for the Postal Service and for the customers that we serve,” said Bronx Postmaster Lilliam Rodriguez.
Postal Inspection Service spokesperson Donna Harris confirmed, “These mailboxes will be removed and replaced with mailboxes containing newer and more effective safety features.”
Local impacted residents can put their outgoing mail in their own mailbox for daily pickup, give their mail to any USPS letter carrier, or drop off their mail at their local Post Office until this process has been completed.
Customers can find local postal services by searching for postal locations listed under “Find USPS Locations” at usps.com. Additionally, customers mailing packages can schedule a pickup.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
