USPS Secures Collection Boxes Before Upcoming Protests

NEW YORK, NY – In the interest of safety and security, postal officials will seal or remove Postal Service collection boxes on Thursday January 18, in New York City.

The familiar blue collection boxes will be inaccessible after the final scheduled collection of mail on the evening of Thursday, January 18. Impacted collection boxes will be reopened on the morning of Saturday, January 21

US Mail Collection Boxes impacted at the following locations:

  • Both sides of Central Park West – between 59th Street and 66th Street
  • All boxes within the vicinity of Columbus Circle
  • Both Sides of Central Park South (59th Street) –Central Park West and 5th Avenue
  • Both Sides of 5th Avenue – between Central Park South (59th Street) and 53rd Street
  • Both sides of 58th Street – between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue
  • Both Sides of 56th Street - between 5th Avenue and Sutton Place
  • Both Sides of Sutton Place – between 55th Street and  59th Street
  • Both Sides of York Avenue – between 59th Street)and 63rd Street
  • Both Sides of 62nd Street – between 1st Avenue and FDR Drive
For additional locations to deposit mail, customers are directed to usps.com and use Quick Tools to Find Locations. Use the dropdown for collection boxes or post offices to find alternate locations for secure mail deposits in the immediate area.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
