US Passport application

Planning summer ravel?   Will a destination wedding or business travel take you overseas?  Or is there a student in your family who will study or compete abroad?  Is the trip of a lifetime just a passport away for you this summer?

As passport turnaround times now average six to eight weeks according to the State Department, post offices can be a quick first stop on the trip.

To make it easier to apply for a U.S. Passport, the Clay Post Office, 5601 State Route 31,
will expand their hours on Saturday, April 15, for applications and passport photo services from noon until 3 pm.  No appointment is necessary.

What’s new about Passports?

Can I wear glasses in my photos?
As of November 1, 2016, customers applying for or renewing their passport must remove glasses for their passport photo. If you are wearing glasses in the photo in your current passport, don't worry about it. You don't have to get a new passport now. When you renew your passport, you'll have to take them off.

I need a photocopy of what documents?
An applicant must submit a photocopy of the front and back of the Proof of Citizenship (such as a certified birth certificate or naturalization certificate) effective January 2017.  This copy is retained by the Department of State. Most post offices have photocopy service.

Do all Post Offices accept passport applications?
No, but passport applications are accepted at more than 4,800 post offices. To find the nearest Post Office, customers can go to usps.com/passport and click on Find the Post Office or call 1-800-ASK-USPS. They also can visit travel.state.gov/ for additional information.
