Staten Island Postmaster John Tanna

Staten Island, NY – On Thursday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the Staten Island Borough Hall, John Tanna will raise his right hand to be sworn in as the new Postmaster of Staten Island. John will follow a proud tradition and become the 9th Staten Island Postmaster, a position that dates back to 1957, when Robert J. Johnson was first appointed.

John Tanna began his postal career in January 1982, as a City Letter Carrier in the Bay Ridge Post Office and later transferred to Staten Island. In 1985, he was promoted to Supervisor Mail & Delivery and over his 35 year postal career has been promoted into positions of increasing responsibility.

More recently Tanna held positions as Staten Island Manager Customer Service Operations and the Triboro District Manager Post Office Operations. Currently, he manages a workforce of nearly 700 employees and mail delivery for almost 160,000 customers.

Triboro District Manager and Executive-in-Charge Elvin Mercado will administer the official oath of office.

John is an avid sports fan and has spent 30 years coaching various teams to championships. He will be joined by his wife Deborah and children Nicole, 27 and John, 25.
