Mount Vernon, NY — Five Mount Vernon letter carriers recently earned the National Safety Council’s prestigious Million Mile Club award for safe driving. Westchester District Manager Richard Conte joined Postmaster Caroline Stern and Westchester District Post Office Operations Manager Jerry Shapiro to present the awards at a special early morning ceremony to four of the five carriers who were on duty on Thursday, June 1 at the Main Post Office.
The five safety conscious Mount Vernon Million Milers include: James Baird, Michael Cole, Anthony Corrado, Michael Drew, and Arnold Lane.
Westchester District Safety Specialist Jill Caridi and Marketing Manager Debra Jones also stopped by the Mount Vernon Post Office to offer their congratulations.
To put the carriers’ achievement in perspective, you would have to travel around the earth 40.1 times to cover one million miles. Reaching this unique milestone requires 30 years of an unwavering attention to safety.
A postal employee may be nominated for lifetime enrollment in the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club if he or she drives without being involved in a preventable motor vehicle accident for a cumulative total of one million miles or 30 years.
The presentation of the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club award reflects the Postal Service’s commitment to safety and pride in its employees who provide excellent service, while safeguarding themselves and the neighborhoods they serve.
