Brooklyn Postal Officials Make Way for J’Ouvert Celebration and West Indian Day Parade

Neighborhood Collection Boxes Receive Temporary Seal / Removal

Brooklyn, NY – In the interest of safety and security, postal officials will seal the Postal Service’s collection boxes along the parade route for the 2017 J’Ouvert Celebration and West Indian Day Parade taking place Sunday, Sept. 3 to Monday, Sept. 4, in Brooklyn, NY.

The familiar blue collection boxes will be sealed, and in some cases removed, after the final scheduled collection of mail on Saturday, Sept. 2. All collection boxes will return to full service.

All impacted collection boxes will be reopened on Tuesday morning, Sept. 5. The James E. Davis Postal Station at 315 Empire Blvd. will also be closed from Saturday evening, Sept. 2 and will be opened for business Tuesday morning, Sept. 5.

Postal officials advise local customers to make alternative plans to mail outgoing items at impacted locations during this time period (see below). 

Collection Boxes for U.S. Mail impacted in these areas:

  1. Both sides of Flatbush Avenue – between Grand Army Plaza and Empire Boulevard
  2. Both sides of Empire Boulevard – between Flatbush Avenue and Nostrand Avenue (including collection boxes at James E. Davis Station)
  3. Both sides of Nostrand Avenue – between Empire Boulevard and Hawthorne Street
  4. Both sides Eastern Parkway (including service roads) – between Ralph Avenue and Grand Army Plaza
  5. Both sides of Saint Johns Place – between Ralph Avenue and Grand Army Plaza (including collection boxes at Saint Johns Place Station)
  6. Both sides of Lincoln Place – between Ralph Avenue and Underhill Avenue
  7. Both sides of Union Street – between Ralph Avenue and Classon Avenue
  8. Both sides of President Street – between Buffalo Avenue and Classon Avenue
  9. Both sides of Ralph Avenue – between East New York Avenue and Saint Johns Place
  10. Both sides of Portal Street – between East New York Avenue and Eastern Parkway
  11. Both sides of Buffalo Avenue – between East New York Avenue and Saint Johns Place
  12. Both sides of Rochester Avenue – between President Street and Saint Johns Place
  13. Both sides of Utica Avenue – between President Street and Saint Johns Place
  14. Both sides of Schenectady Avenue – between President Street and Saint Johns Place
