Upstate New York | December 29, 2017 — Post Offices in your neighborhood will be closed on Monday, January 1, to celebrate the New Year, a year that will offer many new stamps like the Mr. Rogers tribute pictured above.
Over the years, U.S. postage has featured images of renowned men and women from all walks of life, as well as iconic photos, landscapes and paintings that reflect our American culture. The first new stamp to be issued in 2018 will celebrate the Lunar Year and the Year of the Dog, featuring art by Brooklyn-based illustrator Kam Mak.
The Year of the Dog begins Feb. 16, 2018, and ends Feb. 4, 2019.

The first stamp with a first day of issuance ceremony on the East Coast will be the Lena Horne Forever Stamp, the 41st in the Postal Service’s Black Heritage series. That stamp will be issued in the Peter Norton Symphony Space, in New York, on January 30.

And for those who cannot get enough of this week’s big chill, expect a frosty trip to the Post Office later this year as colorful Frozen Treats make for a fun, calorie free summertime stamp purchase.

While only Priority Mail Express packages will be delivered on Monday, full delivery and retail operations will resume on Tuesday, January 2.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
