Postal Service Delivers Annual Veterans Day Ceremonies Thursday

Program honors former Amsterdam postal worker and WW2 Purple Heart recipient, Joseph Luksis

What:

Annual Postal Service Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony, the traditional opening to commemorations around the Capital Region. The outdoor program is open to the public and is a rain-or-shine event.

Who:

Speakers include:
Ryan Horstmyer, on behalf of Paul Tonka United States Congress
Michael Lalli, on behalf of Daniel McCoy, County Executive
Matthew Barron, on behalf of Neil Breslin, New York State Senate
The Honorable Patricia Fahey, New York State Assembly
The Honorable Paula Mahan, Colonie Town Supervisor
Darlene DeLancey, VA Medical Center Director

Opening remarks for the Postal Service will be offered by Thomas F. Kelley, the Postal Service’s Albany District Manager.  

When:

Thursday, November 10, 2017 at  1 pm

Where:   

Patriots Way near the customer entrance of the Albany General Mail Facility
30 Old Karner Road, Colonie

Background: A wreath-laying ceremony will include representatives of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 29 and the American Postal Workers Union Local 234, based in the Albany area.

Honored guests include representatives of the Albany Vet Center and the Stratton VA Medical Center

The program’s honoree is postal retiree Joseph Luksis, a Purple Heart decorated Infantryman with the US Army in WW2 and a retired postal worker from the Amsterdam Post Office.   An Amsterdam native who graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1941, Mr. Luksis retired from his hometown post office in 1982.
