NEW YORK, NY — In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, Post Offices will be closed and only Priority Mail Express will be delivered on Monday, January 15. Normal mail delivery, postal retail operations, and mail collections will resume on Tuesday, January 16.

As the nation pauses for the federal holiday to remember the life and legacy of iconic civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., the Postal Service is preparing its salute to Black History Month by issuing a new Forever stamp featuring legendary performer and civil rights activist Lena Horne.

The Lena Horne Forever stamp is the 41st issuance in the long running Black Heritage stamp series. Lena Horne was a trailblazer in Hollywood for women of color and used her fame as an entertainer to become an important civil rights spokesperson.

The new Lena Horne Forever stamps will be available at Post Offices nationwide on January 30, just in time for this year’s Black History Month celebration. For a sneak peek of the new Lena Horne Forever stamp, visit about.usps.com/news.

The stamp will be dedicated at a special 10:30 a.m. ceremony on Tues., Jan. 30 at the Peter Norton Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th St, New York, NY 10025.
