Free Hiring Open House Delivers Job Opportunities on Thursday

SCHENECTADY NY As the Postal Service looks to approximately 16 billion deliveries of holiday packages and mail from now until the New Year nationwide, the Schenectady Post Office hopes to start 2019 with extra boots on the ground. Literally.

Postal officials will be available at the 29 Jay Street location on Thursday, November 15, from noon until 6 pm to answer questions and guide applicants through the job application process in a hiring Open House aimed at delivering more letter carriers for Schenectady and the Capital Region.

Pay for the local city carrier assistant post is $16.78 per hour.

Postal officials note that veterans and college students are encouraged to apply. All applicants must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Must possess a current valid state driving license and a safe driving record with two consecutive years of documented, unsupervised driving immediately preceding
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pound packages
  • 18 years of age at time of appointment — US citizen or permanent resident
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screen and medical assessment
  • Registered with the Selective Service, if applicable
