Postal Service Delivers Annual Veterans Day Ceremonies Friday

Program honors postal electronics tech and Vietnam Army vet, Timothy McCarthy Vets encouraged to attend Schenectady job fair next Thursday – Carrier positions available

What:

Annual Postal Service Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony, the traditional opening to commemorations around the Capital Region. The outdoor program is open to the public and is a rain-or-shine event.

  • The Honorable Paul Tonko, United States House of Representatives
  • The Honorable Neil D. Breslin, New York State Senate
  • The Honorable Paula Mahan, Supervisor, Town of Colonie
  • Darlene Delancey, Medical Director, Albany Vet Center
  • Ken Secor, Director of Veterans Service Bureau
Opening remarks for the Postal Service will be offered by Lawrence Elliott, Jr., the Postmaster of Albany.

Patriots Way near the customer entrance of the Albany General Mail Facility

30 Old Karner Road, Colonie

Background:   

A wreath-laying ceremony will include representatives of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 29 and the American Postal Workers Union Local 234, based in the Albany area.  LaSalle Institute of Troy provides the color guard. 

The 2018 program honoree is Timothy P. McCarthy, a field artilleryman with the US Army to Bravo Battery, 6th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment of the 23rd Group Artillery, 2nd Field Force and was deployed to the Republic of Vietnam. He is an electronics technician with the Postal Service, serving since 1972.

More than 105,000 veterans currently work for the Postal Service, including 750 assigned to the Albany District which reaches from the Finger Lakes to the Massachusetts border and from Plattsburgh to Watertown to Binghamton.

Capital Region post offices continue to reach out to veterans and others for hiring opportunities at the Postal Service.  A job fair will be held at the Schenectady Post Office, 29 Jay Street, on November 15 from noon to 6 pm, seeking candidates for letter carrier assistant positions.  Veterans are encouraged to attend.  Additional information and applications are also available at usps.com/careers.
